Two days dedicated to meetings, debates, insights, tastings and guided tours, launching a message of peace in a globally delicate and complex period. The program, organized by the Municipality of Lugnano and Witaly, includes the participation of international guests to emphasize the rich olive growing tradition of the area, and above all the Olea Mundi World Olive Collection. Lugnano in Teverina, which has received the title of Custodian of Biodiversity, has made oil and the olive tree one of its strong suits: since 2014 it has been home to “Olea Mundi”, the world collection of olive trees of about 1200 plants including over 400 olive cultivars from 23 olive-growing countries in the Mediterranean, the Middle East and the new cultivation areas. The collection also includes 263 Italian varieties from almost all regions, 128 varieties from over 23 countries around the world and 60 minor varieties from the Umbria Region. A real naturalistic temple of Biodiversity, where the CNR of Perugia, the Agri-food Technology Park of Umbria 3A-PTA, study the behavior of these trees, in order to concretely contribute to the conservation and enhancement of a unique varietal olive heritage and to promote sustainable development of the territory through agrobiodiversity. Representatives of the States represented in the collection (ambassadors, consuls, etc.) will be invited and interact with the other collections of the world connected with ours, especially Spain and Argentina where Italian-descendants operate. We will reserve a new portion of land to plant new olive trees to be given up for adoption to each returning Italian who will come to Lugnano. As far as food and wine and oil tourism are concerned, we will organize both the traditional conference that summarizes and presents the scientific activities carried out during the year, and the harvesting and pressing of the olives of the collection to make the real “Oil of Peace” and a thematic tasting by the various restaurants in the area; This year we will also invite one or more Italian chefs around the world to prepare dishes based on oil and olives from your area of residence. In the spaces made available to the Municipality, the Roots workshops will be organized in collaboration with the Temporary Committee for Return Tourism
