Although the liturgical calendar places the feast of St. Anthony the Abbot on January 17, in Allerona it is actually celebrated on the following Sunday. At the Church of Santa Maria Assunta the statue of the saint is still preserved and is carried in procession on the day of the feast, after Mass, to Piazza Attilio Lupi where the parish priest blesses all the animals with his relic. In the afternoon the party continues at the Sala Aurora with the traditional distribution of maritozzi with raisins (a typical Umbrian dessert). It is a very heartfelt event that has been taking place for over 100 years.
