The simple and modest life of a peasant family in Otricoli at the beginning of the 20th century flows between the need to deal with the primary and vital daily chores, the excesses of the young, the mumblings of the elderly; but here an unexpected event breaks into their miserable daily life: the postman delivers to Giovanni, the head of the family, a letter that plunges him into despair …
The comedy, in addition to its primary objective, that of entertaining, has the ambition of wanting to recreate through the characters, the settings, the atmospheres a slice of distant, naïve, simple life, lost in time, and for this reason remembered with melancholic nostalgia.
And it is in this simplicity, in this naivety, that the idealization of America takes shape and is seen as a possibility of redemption from poverty, as a personal realization of one’s ambitions, but also a place that is not one’s own, not a friend, a foreigner and difficult to understand, in which the nostalgia for the land left behind and the strong desire to return “home” become a constant and nagging thought.

By train The main railway hubs around Otricoli are: Orte and Civita Castellana. The two main stations of Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina are both about 1 hour away from Otricoli. By car For those coming from Perugia: E45 Terni-Orte towards Rome, first exit Narni-San Gemini and continue towards Rome. Continue on the Via Flaminia until the junction with the Tiberina and turn towards Otricoli. For those coming from Rome: A1 motorway, Orte exit. SS3 (Terni-Orte junction) towards Terni, first exit for Narni. After the junction with the Tiberina, turn towards Otricoli, or, still taking the A1 motorway at the Magliano Sabina exit, take the direction of Otricoli. The city is about 2 km from the Magliano Sabina motorway exit. For those coming from Florence: Take the A1 motorway to the Orte exit. Take the SS3 (Terni-Orte junction) towards Terni. Take the first exit for Narni, and continue straight; at the junction with the Tiberina, after about 7 km, turn right towards Otricoli.
