What is the Bigonzone Festival?
It has been held since the early nineties of the twentieth century in the hamlet of Monterubiaglio on the Sunday following November 11 (St. Martin’s Day). It is a now traditional festival of the village, which involves the opening of a large vat (bigonzone) where the grapes had been placed after the “pressing” carried out “barefoot” in memory of the tradition at the end of the harvest of all the winemakers of the village about 20-25 days: it is tapped for a collective tasting, in the square, of the new wine. A way to say goodbye, with the end of the grape harvest, the last warmth of what we are used to calling the summer of San Martino: you are under the Castle, where in the late morning the banquets begin to peep out in the alleys of the historic center with wine, offering typical local products and gastronomy. Organized by the Pro Loco of Monterubiaglio with the patronage of the Municipality of Castel Viscardo.
