SAN FELICE FAIR: MARKET EXHIBITION OF LIVESTOCK, CEREALS AND TYPICAL UMBRIAN PRODUCTS. The event is part of the local cultural tradition as a commercial and encouraging moment for agriculture and the exchange of goods of native production.
The trade fair event aims to showcase the product considered the prince of the territory: the PDO spelt of Monteleone di Spoleto. And it is an all-round showcase for the rural productive world, undoubtedly represented by the breeding of livestock, both pack and livestock.
The original objective of the fair was certainly to buy and sell animals, such as cattle (calves and oxen for towing), equidae almost exclusively for pack animals such as mules and harnesses, horses.
The saddle horse did not exist or at least there were very few who owned it, mules were also used here to pull carts and carriages, so the trade was oriented towards these subjects. The cattle fair was joined by that of greengrocers and various food products. It should be remembered that the fair was a real moment of supply of foodstuffs and products that were not produced locally.
Today the objective for the animal sector has certainly changed and the Municipal Administration intends to give, with this initiative, great prominence to the pack animal, creating a fixed appointment reference for the sector in synergy with the development of the environment.
The San Felice Fair is now also a moment for the promotion of PDO spelt and the many typical products that identify the territory with a view to promoting and enhancing tourism aimed at increasing the number of tourists and visitors.
In detail, the initiative takes the form of a program full of activities as illustrated below:
– Market Exhibition of Livestock and typical mountain products;
– Equestrian shows;
– Tasting of typical local products (honey and cheese from Valnerina);
– Guided tours of the architectural and landscape beauties of Monteleone di Spoleto;
– Children’s entertainment;
– Musical performances – concerts by the “Carlo Innocenzi” Band Corps.
– Tour of the Gourmands on the Spelt PDO road in collaboration with the restaurants and accommodation facilities in the area.
This year the opening of a chapter is planned within Filitalia International, which is a branch of the aforementioned Philadelphia Association in order to strengthen the Italian-American partnership through the promotion of our village within a social and cultural network well rooted in the USA, which sees Italian emigrants and their descendants as protagonists.
In addition, the event will be dedicated to the culture of roots, to emigrants scattered around the world, highlighting through remote connections and communication in the foreign press the events carried out, animations, tastings, re-enactments of traditions, performance of folkloric groups such as the local band “Carlo Innocenzi”. The passport of the roots will be activated which will entitle you to discounts at the accommodation facilities and free guided tours and at the Chariot Museum, an important archaeological find, a unique piece in the world for its beauty and history, found in Monteleone and stolen in the USA through a compelling story of which ample evidence will be given during the days of celebration.
