What is Ocriculum AD 168?
The event evokes the splendour of the ancient city at the time of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, in the year 168 AD, under whose reign the vulgate dates back to the martyrdom in Damascus of the patron saint of Otricoli, the young Ocriculan tribune Victor. For an entire weekend inside the archaeological area, scenes of daily life are evoked by people dressed according to the Roman costume of the second century, lost spaces are recreated and, most importantly, the monumental buildings of the ancient city of Ocriculum are revived. During those days the archaeological area is repopulated by over 300 figures of the Association and other re-enactment bodies from all over Italy, but also and above all by over 5000 visitors; The various didactic desks of which the event is composed are made keeping in mind the emotional-sensory sphere. For this reason, they have the ability to make the active visitor the protagonist of a particular example of re-enactment, which is also experimental archaeology proposed to the general public and, in particular, to specific more sensitive tourist categories, such as school-youth tourism, families, and the weaker groups. The location of the various re-enactment activities at all the main monuments of the ancient city allows the full enjoyment of both these and those, thanks to the removal of the few architectural barriers present in an archaeological area that is also a nature park.
